Legal Alliance: the union of law firms for racial equity

The cover of our new issue of The Latin American Lawyer magazine, features more on the Legal Alliance for Racial Equity, celebrated today, March 21, the International Day Against Racial Discrimination.

Officially launched on March 21, 2019, the Alliance is an initiative designed to promote racial inclusion and equity, of Black and Black professionals, in law firms and the legal marketplace. The Alliance was initiated and formalized at a seminar at the Getulio Vargas Foundation, held in 2017.

At first, the Legal Alliance for Racial Equity was formed by 9 founding law firms: BMA – Barbosa Müssnich Aragão, Demarest, Lefosse, Machado Meyer, Mattos Filho, Pinheiro Neto, Trench Rossi Watanabe, TozziniFreire, and Veirano. Three other firms – Stocche Forbes, Cescon Barrieu, and Felsberg – were approved, and recently another firm – Lobo de Rizzo – joined the group, increasing the number of members from 9 to 13.

The Latin American Lawyer interviewed lawyers from some of the firms that make up the Alliance to learn more about the initiative.. Read the full story and download The Latin American Lawyer magazine for free, here.
