Viana, Assis and Silva

Lobo de Rizzo expands its practice with the arrival of new partners

Lobo de Rizzo announces an important expansion in its work in the Infrastructure and Energy sector, with the arrival of three new partners with multidisciplinary backgrounds and long experience in the energy industry, also reinforcing its operation in Rio de Janeiro.

The firm has hired Bernardo Viana (pictured left), a reference in crisis management, strategic disputes involving reputational issues, governance and compliance; João Pedro Assis (pictured center), with solid experience in the infrastructure and electricity sectors; and Thiago Luiz Silva (pictured right), a specialist in the oil and gas, low-carbon hydrogen and offshore wind sectors.

Lobo de Rizzo’s bet is also on the diversity of experience of the new hires: while Thiago and Bernardo come from law firms, João Pedro arrives with experience on the corporate side, working at the client’s end.

Bernardo Viana acts in investigations and crises of all kinds, from behavioral issues to cases of fraud and international corruption, as well as advising on sensitive risks in transactions and disputes with greater reputational exposure. He is also a Professor at FGV and holds an LLM from Columbia University, NY.

João Pedro Assis specializes in infrastructure and electricity, with a strong track record in regulatory and transactional matters in Brazil and abroad. He has extensive experience in the energy generation and commercialization segments, including structuring self-production projects, mergers and acquisitions, auctions and regulated contracts, administrative processes, implementation of wind and photovoltaic plants, as well as importing and exporting electricity. In addition to an extensive academic background and a Master’s degree in Public Law from FGV Direito São Paulo, throughout his career he has held executive positions in major groups in the sector, such as EDF, CGN Brasil Energia, IHS Towers and Bolt Energy.

Thiago Luiz Silva is a partner specializing in oil and gas exploration and production and its supply chain, natural gas, offshore wind and low-carbon hydrogen. With 19 years’ experience advising domestic and foreign companies, he has participated in strategic transactions in the oil and gas sector, including farm-in/farm-outs, structuring gas-fired thermoelectric plants with LNG terminals, mergers and acquisitions of offshore service providers, gas transportation pipelines and gas distributors, as well as relevant financings.
