Philippi, Prietocarrizosa & Uría launches in Peru

Philippi, Prietocarrizosa & Uría, the Iberian American law firm, has announced its merger with Peruvian law firms Ferrero Abogados and Delmar Ugarte.

The resulting entity will operate as Philippi, Prietocarrizosa, Ferrero DU & Uría and will be home to 44 partners and 319 lawyers in four Latin American cities: Bogotá and Barranquilla (Colombia), Santiago (Chile) and Lima (Perú). Madrid-headquartered Uría Menéndez holds an important stake in the regional law firm.

Legacy Estudio Ferrero Abogados is a full service law firm which has been in operation for over 70 years. It is perhaps best known for its tax and labour expertise. On the other hand, legacy Delmar Ugarte was set up a decade ago and has a strong focus on infrastructure and project finance, coupled with a solid Asia practice.

For Juan Francisco Gutiérrez and Martín Acero, co-chairs of Philippi, Prietocarrizosa & Uría, the launch in Peru “is a great moment for our regional law firm in our first year of operations. The demands from our clients, many of which are multinaltinas, and their global needs were a great incentive to seek a base in Peru. We are delighted to have Ferrero Abogados and Delmar Ugarte joining us to provide higher quality of service to our clients.”

Luis de Carlos, managing partner of Uría Menéndez, stated: “having these two leading Peruvian law firms as partners confirms the great strategy we started a year ago with the launch of Philippi, Prietocarrizosa & Uría as we consolidate as a top law firm in the Pacific Alliance countries and in Latin America.”
