PPU announced new co-chair in Chile. Holland & Knight added a team from Jones Day in Mexico

The legal market in Latin America started the new year with laterals and promotions. Pellerano in the Dominican Republic and Prieto in Chile grew their respective partnerships while Garrigues in Peru and Holland & Knight in Mexico welcomed high profile hires.

Elsewhere, PPU in Chile announced that partner Marcelo Armas is taking over as co-chair of the 550-strong Iberian American law firm.

In Colombia, PPU advised the banks in a private toll road financing under the 4G government-led infrastructure programme. In Chile, the firm advised Walmart on the local sale of its financial arm, and, on a separate deal, advised the sellers of a 68% stake in BBVA.

Meanwhile, in Sao Paulo, Simpson Thacher brokered the IPO of Burger King Brazil while in Peru, Echecopar was instructed on the sale of the operator of Marriott hotels in the country.

Simpson Thacher acted for Burger King Brazil on its debut offer on the on the São Paulo Stock Exchange, which raised 886 million reais (approximately $268 million).

Baker McKenzie instructed on Marriott sale in Peru
Estudio Echecopar, the Peruvian member firm of Baker McKenzie International, advised Intursa on the acquisition of Inversiones La Rioja, owners of the Marriott hotels in Peru.
