Salomão Advogados has a new partner and expands its operations

Former federal judge, Marcus Lívio (pictured) takes over the field of tax law of Salomão, Kaiuca, Abrahão, Raposo e Cotta Advogados.

The new partner has 23 years of experience as a federal judge and one of the main specialists in tax law and tax procedural law in the country, Marcus Lívio was one of the leaders of the Diagnosis of Brazilian tax judicial litigation, an initiative of the National Council of Justice (CNJ) with support from the Instituto of Teaching and Research (Insper).

He is also an associate professor in the undergraduate and graduate programs of Tax Law at Uerj since 2013 and at the University of London since 2018, where he is also a researcher.

Marcus Lívio, who served as assistant judge to Minister Luiz Fux at the Federal Supreme Court, joins the company at a time of expansion of the office, which will also expand its operation in São Paulo. The São Paulo unit will gain new headquarters next month in the heart of the country’s financial market, and is preparing to increase its team in São Paulo, including the Tax team to work not only on Strategic Tax Judicial Litigation, but also in strategic tax administrative litigation. In addition to Rio de Janeiro, where it is headquartered, and São Paulo, the office has units in Brasília and Vitória.

At the head of the office in São Paulo will be the lawyer Leonardo Ruiz Machado, who will work directly with all the other partners. Machado is recognized for his vast experience in the compliance area, with a certificate in Governance, Risk and Compliance by the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics in Scottsdale, USA, in 2009. In his more than 20-year career, he has worked at Walmart, at PwC and at the Investment Projects Board of InvestSP – Paulista Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Competitiveness, an entity linked to the Government of the State of São Paulo. He also has relevant experience in the area of civil litigation and specializes in highly complex litigation.
