Sergio Bermudes advises entrepreneur in lawsuit against Xuxa

Sergio Bermudes Advogados represented the entrepreneur Leonardo Soltz, in a lawsuit against Xuxa’s company.

The Department of Justice of Rio de Janeiro sentenced Xuxa Promoções and Productions, Xuxa Meneghel’s company, to pay more than R$ 65 million due to an accusation of appropriation of the characters created by Soltz.

The dispute lasted for 19 years. The second instance decision, dated Tuesday (10), is from judge Flávia Viveiros de Castro, from the 6th Civil Court, in Barra da Tijuca, in Rio’s West Zone. The company may appeal in another instance.

According to the lawsuit, the publicist Leonardo Soltz says that the characters of “A Turma do Cabralzinho” were copied in a project of the company Xuxa, which profited from stories and licensing.
The two works refer to stories for children about the 500 years of Portuguese arrival in the country.

Sergio Bermudes represented Soltz against Xuxa, and had partners Ricardo Loretti and Livia Ikeda.
