Tauil & Chequer announces new tax counsel

Tauil & Chequer Advogados (T&C) in association with Mayer Brown, announced the hiring of Bianca Rothschild (pictured) as a counsel in its Tax practice. Previously, she served as a judge for federal tax lawsuits at Ministry of Finance for nearly six years.

At T&C, Ms. Rothschild will also call on her extensive background in tax and litigation and advise alongside the teams supporting the firm’s well-established Energy practice and on infrastructure work.

Ms. Rothschild has 20 years’ experience in Brazil in private practice, in-house and in the public sector. She started her career in private practice, focusing on corporate and tax practices related to the oil and gas industry. She moved in-house to oil and gas company, Odebrecht, where she worked on multinational projects and financings, including an Angolan project to structure upstream activities; a US$1.6 billion dollar project financing in Austria; and for a Danish drilling rig negotiation.

Ms. Rothschild then acted as Head of Tax for an infrastructure concessionaire, where she led the strategic and operational team in the tax area, involving the implementation of all internal tax practices, identification and development of tax planning opportunities, support on identifying and developing litigation actions. Following that she was nominated for a judicial appointment in the Brazilian Federal Administrative Tax Court at Ministry of Finance.

Bianca Rothschild holds certifications in Controllership and Finance from the Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Contábeis, Atuariais e Financeiras (FIPECAFI) and in Tax Law by Instituto Brasileiro de Estudos Tributários (IBET).

She is regularly volunteers and handles pro bono projects, as well as other volunteer work in several underserved communities in Rio de Janeiro. She was recently appointed as an Ambassador at Casa José Coltro, in São Paulo. Casa José Coltro is an NGO that has been operating since 1988 and works in welcoming, training and social and professional integration of young children and adults, always in partnership with the family.
