Tauil & Chequer strengthens its Oil and Gas practice

Tauil & Chequer Advogados in association with Mayer Brown has strengthened its Oil and Gas practice with the hiring of counsel Olavo Bentes David (pictured).

With over 30 years of experience in Oil & Gas, he brings as a distinguishing feature a legal and technical vision of the sector to advise the firm’s clients in the most complex matters.

He graduated in Law and specialized in Oil and Natural Gas Law from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), and also holds a degree in Geology from the University of Brasília (UnB) and a post-graduate degree in Geophysics for Oil Prospecting from Petrobras Corporate University.

He worked for 20 years as Petroleum Geophysicist at Petrobras in thee acquisition, processing and New Business departments and, upon joining the Attorney General’s Office as Federal Attorney in 2006, he served in notable positions such as Substitute Attorney General at the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) and Legal Counsel at Pré-sal Petróleo S.A (PPSA).

At ANP, he worked on complex and relevant issues for the industry, such as the formulation of ANP and National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) resolutions, dealing with the regulation of unitization in Brazil and the debates related to the construction of the first Brazilian production sharing contract, the Libra PSC.

Besides being a lecturer, he is the author and co-author of several national and international articles in Petroleum and Natural Gas field. He was invited to teach in several specialized courses on industry topics, such as the graduate course in Geophysics at UFRN, the graduate course in Petroleum Law at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Petrópolis, and the extension course in Energy Law at the Brazilian Institute of Energy Law (IBDE).
