Thompson & Knight adds tax partner in Mexico City

Thompson & Knight announced that Mario Barrera has joined the firm’s Mexico City office as a partner in the tax practice group.

Barrera received his law degree (J.D. equivalent), summa cum laude, from the Universidad de las Americas in 1999. He graduated from the International Tax Program at Harvard Law School in 2000, and obtained a Master of Laws in Taxation, summa cum laude, from Universidad Panamericana in 2002. He is a native Spanish speaker, proficient in English, and advanced in French.

Barrera focuses his practice on domestic and cross-border tax advisory, planning, and strategy. He regularly represents clients before tax authorities in non-litigation procedures such as tax audits, administrative appeals, settlements, and mutual agreement procedures. Barrera also has experience handling tax treaties, transfer pricing, and corporate reorganizations.

Before joining Thompson & Knight, Barrera was a partner at Basham, Ringe y Correa in Mexico City.
