This week, The Latin American Lawyer invites IP professionals with business interests in Latin America to join a high level debate in cooperation with Kluwer  Law International. The session will cover IP rights in the new digital age and will take place on May 22nd in Barcelona. For more details, click here, 

Barcelona plays hosts to the INTA Annual Meeting during May 20th through 24th. There are over 9000 IP professionals already registered! Let us know if you are attending.

The Latin American Lawyer will be in New York in June during the IBA M&A conference, in Mexico in July discussing IP challenges and in Guatemala during the New York Bar Association meeting. In addition, we will keep our regular presence at the ICC annual meeting and our arbitration session in Miami in November. If you plan to attend any of these events, please let us know. In other news, Rodrigo, Elías & Medrano launched a new transfer pricing initiative in Peru while in Colombia, PPU acted for the initial purchaser on the $300 million note issue by GNB Sudameris, the Colombian bank. 

In Mexico, Cuatrecasas added a former PEMEX lawyer as a partner and Kaltex instructed Paul Hastings for its inaugural notes offering. Elsewhere, Reed Smith opened up shop in Miami hiring members of the arbitration and litigation teams of legacy boutique law firm Astigarraga Davis.

French hotelier Accor took over the management of 26 hotels in Brazil and hired Prokauer Rose for the transaction while Carey and PPU were instructed in the debt refinance of Graña & Montero, the Peru-headquartered construction company.

Rodrigo announced new transfer pricing initiative in Peru Rodrigo, Elías & Medrano announced the launch of +Value Precios de Transferencia, a new company in alliance with the former head of SUNAT. PPU advised initial purchaser on notes issued by GNB Sudameris Philippi, Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría acted for Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the initial purchasers, on the $300 million note issue by GNB Sudameris. Kaltex retains Paul Hastings for inaugural $320 million notes offering Paul Hastings advised Grupo Kaltex, the Mexican textile company, on in its inaugural international bond offering. Integra Legal becomes EY Law Integra Legal, a regional legal practice which launched in Central America in 2014, has announced it becomes EY Law. Cleary Gottlieb and Simpson Thacher instructed on Netshoes $148.5 million IPO Cleary Gottlieb advised the underwriters while Netshoes mandated Simpson Thacher. Reed Smith launches in Miami with recruits from Astigarraga Davis Reed Smith announced the opening of an office in Miami with seven lawyers from Astigarraga Davis. Highly-esteemed arbitrator José I. Astigarraga joins the global law firm as partner and will lead its international arbitration practice. Carey and PPU instructed on $52 million debt refinance Carey advised Graña y Montero on the refinance its debt with CHUBB Perú for $52 million. Proskauer advised Accor on hotel management takeover in Brazil Proskauer Rose advised French hotelier Accor on its agreement with BHG to takeover 26 hotels in Brazil. For more news click here
