DTA has two new consultants and expands its practices

Davi Tangerino Advogados (DTA) has announced the arrival of two new consultants: Antonio Martins (pictured left) and Rafael Mafei (pictured right). While Antonio will work on issues related to the firm’s criminal practice, Rafael will inaugurate the firm’s freedom of expression practice.

Master (LL.M.) and PhD in Law from Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Antonio is an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Law and Criminology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and author of the book “Money Laundering: Fundamentals and Controversies”, written in co-authorship with the also criminalist Juarez Tavares. At Davi Tangerino Advogados, he will focus on legal opinions and opinions in the area of Criminal Law, and will reinforce the firm’s presence in Rio de Janeiro, where it is based.

Mafei, in turn, holds a sandwich doctorate in Law, Philosophy and General Theory of Law from the University of São Paulo (USP) and the Max Planck Society, also in Germany, as well as a master’s degree in the same area from USP. He is currently a professor at USP and ESPM. Researcher at the Center for the Analysis of Freedom and Authoritarianism (LAUT), for about five years, he has been working with topics related to data protection, technology and freedom of expression in general. Based on this experience, he brings to the office the new practice of freedom of expression, an area that has gained more relevance every day in the face of global discussions about fake news, regulation of social networks and applications and the limits of freedom of expression. Mafei is also the author of “How to remove a president: theory, history and practice of impeachment in Brazil”, a reference work in the study of impeachment and crimes of responsibility that was a finalist for the Jabuti Prize in Human Sciences in 2022. he is also coordinator of the Center for Freedom of Expression Studies at the USP Law School.
