GC adds a new partner and two counsels

González Calvillo has announced the appointment of Daniel Morán Salgado as partner and Paola Hernández Villalvazo and Rosa Elena Coto García as counsels of the firm to strengthen the Litigation, ESG and M&A areas, respectively.

These appointments were announced as part of the firm’s 35th anniversary celebration. Paola’s appointment took effect on 1 September, while Daniel and Rosa’s appointments will be effective 1 January 2023.

“Daniel and Rosa Elena have historically contributed enormously in some of our most relevant projects and matters across our practice areas [Paola] has had a distinguished career tackling extremely challenging and intricate matters at Grupo Mexico. She has the ideal combination of experience, values, and leadership ability to bolster our already impressive ESG credentials and capabilities as the demand from our clients for these services is rapidly expanding,” said members of the firm’s Executive Committee.

Daniel Morán Salgado (pictured left) has been a member of GC’s litigation group since 2005 and was promoted to counsel in 2021. He has more than 15 years of experience advising clients in administrative and commercial litigation, as well as civil, energy and real estate litigation. He has also handled administrative and bankruptcy proceedings, as well as amparo proceedings before federal and local courts throughout Mexico. Daniel is also part of GC’s arbitration and mediation team, leading disputes before local and international courts and panels and has led the enforcement of foreign judgments and awards in Mexico. He holds a law degree and is a specialist in Amparo Proceedings from the Universidad Panamericana.

Paola Hernández Villalvazo (pictured centre) has more than two decades of experience in the legal sector, both in the public and private sectors. She was part of Americas Mining Corporation (AMC), the mining division of Grupo Mexico, where she held numerous high-level positions, including assistant director of Environmental and Health Legal Affairs, director of Corporate Environmental Affairs and compliance officer. Paola was also part of the International Antidumping department at the Mexican Ministry of Economy. She holds a law degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana, a Master’s degree in Environmental Law from the Universidad del País Vasco, a specialisation in Foreign Trade from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and has completed several diplomas and specialisations in International Commercial Arbitration and Compliance.

Rosa Elena Coto García (pictured right) has been a member of the GC team since 2002 and is a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity and Corporate Law areas. She has extensive experience representing and advising on business and investment-related decision-making processes for a wide range of local and foreign entities, start-ups and equity investment funds. She advises on the drafting, negotiation, structuring and execution of numerous structures related to stock exchange transactions, asset acquisitions, corporate restructurings, capitalization procedures, spin-offs, mergers, joint ventures, strategic alliances and equity investment funds and trusts, among others. She holds a law degree from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and an LLM in Business Law from the Universidad Panamericana.
