PPU represents QMC Telecom in $45m financing with IDB Invest

Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría has represented the QMC Telecom group in a $45 million USD financing with IDB Invest, with the objective of leveraging its operation in Colombia, Peru and Mexico, closing a first disbursement for the Colombian borrowers.

This transaction was signed on 4 November 2021, closed and concluded on 16 August 2022.

Other firms advising on the transaction were Locke Lorde, as US counsel to the debtors; DLA Piper Martinez Beltran, as Colombian counsel to the lender; and Morrison & Foerster, as US counsel to the lender.          

“In Colombia, the QMC Telecom group is an important player in the telecommunications infrastructure sector, with assets distributed throughout the country, enabling the main mobile network service providers to expand the coverage of their services. With this financing, which includes a complex guarantee scheme, we continue contributing to the adequate operation of Colombian companies and simultaneously strengthening the confidence of important financing sources such as multilateral banks so they continue investing in Colombia,” the firm announced in a statement.

Locke Lorde’s team consisted of partner James Rubens and associate Brandon Curtin.

DLA Piper’s team included partner Sebatián Lora, senior associate Carlos Guzmán, and junior associates Juan Pablo Rico and Valeria Vergara.

Morrison & Foerster’s team comprised partner Ann Lilienthal and associate Christopher Pearson.

PPU’s team was led by partner Hernando Padilla (pictured), assisted by principal associate Daniela Mejía and junior associate Jorge Portocarrero.
